
The Jumilla Wine Museum is the result of a long wine tradition with more than 5.000 years. Located in the old ships of Spiria restored by El Arsenal, It is a museum center that offers us a trip throughout the history of wine in our town allowing the visitor to immerse through a visual and interactive experience in the world and the culture of wine.
Permanent exposure is divided into three large exhibition areas. The first of them focuses on the history and archeology of wine, A cultural heritage that has modeled the lives of people who have inhabited this territory since Calcolithic. The visitor can know, among other things, The first nipitas of Vitis Vinífera found on the site of El Prado with 5.000 years of history, What role did wine in the Iberian culture, How was the Greek Symposium, The democratization of wine consumption in ancient Rome or the dressing of wine in the Middle Ages.
The second area revolves around the economic importance of the wine industry from the 19th century and deals with such interesting issues as the importance of the Monastrell variety in our territory, the traditional and current forms of wine elaboration, its transport and exit to foreign markets, What relationship did the phylloxera crisis with the economic take -off of Jumilla or the traditional professions around the wine.
Finally, The third part of the museum is dedicated to the denomination of protected origin and the Jumilla wine route, Drive of wine tourism in our town. The public can enter cultural heritage, Historical and natural of Jumilla and meet his parties, people, Gastronomy and traditions. In this last area we can appreciate the result of an evolution of thousands of years where wine has become an intrinsic part of our culture and a powerful economic generator.
The wine museum also has other services such as the auditorium, with capacity to 72 people, a tasting room, a room for temporary exhibitions and, Of course, an exterior space for the realization of all kinds of events.
